The magic of green screen is limitless. The idea that with a green screen background or being clothed in green material which then can be replaced with any footage has changed visual media forever. It opens up possibilities that were previously hindered. Sometimes, too many possibilities can feel overwhelming. So Bravo, the leading New York Green Screen Studio, is here to share five of their favorite green screen ideas to inspire your next production.
1. Time Travel
Green screen production allows the green screen background to be anything you want. One idea is that the background can be something of the past or future. Imagine the subject standing still and the background with a speed up effect rewinds back in time to 10 minutes ago. The subject can even be walking as the background fast forwards in time. The possibilities are endless.
2. Be invisible
A cool feature of green screen is that it doesn’t have to be just on a green screen stage or background. Green screen technology can be worn! When a green bodysuit is worn, the green material can be transformed to anything you want, like the background, creating an invisible effect. This can be done to specific body parts, too, wherever the green material is. For instance, a floating head with the green material being worn from the neck down and keyed to look like the background.
3. Animate
In green screen production, we mentioned that the background can be anything. This means that the background can also be a world with an animated monster attacking the “real subject” or an entire near-future world filled with flying cars which the “real subject” is exploring. Animation combined with green screen technology allows the ability for live action, stop motion, graphics created in 3D and more.
4. Additional News
Green screen is practical as it is entertaining. Many news and sports outlets use green screen so that they may easily overlay information to the audience. Many examples of this include weather, election updates, and sports analysis. Backdrops, images, and footage related to the subject that the anchors are speaking about can be easily displayed in the green screen background.
5. Drive in Place
Did you know that many driving scenes in movies and televisions uses green screen? Yes, they are not actually driving their car or on a plane. Nothing is moving in space. They are stagnant in a green screen studio. The background is actually keyed out to reflect a car moving in a city street. The reason most driving or moving vehicles scenes are green screened is because they can control the environment better. Recording while on the move is tricky. Weather plays a huge part. Other things to consider is safety, lighting, and audio. Plus, the footage used for the background can be anything they want! Like a city street or a distant utopia.
